Assalamu Alaikum and welcome to CAN-MA, everyone!
We have officially launched CAN-MA: Canadian Muslimah in Academia following our collective discussions on the need for a dedicated space for Muslim women in Canadian higher education. As we navigate our various roles, from sessional lecturers and PhD researchers to faculty and professional staff, this group will serve as our central hub for professional growth and mutual support.
Our Common Intentions:
Authentic Connection: A high-trust space to share our lived experiences working in the Canadian academic field.
Strategic cooperation: Working together on shared academic, research or study interests, pedagogy and instructional design.
Career Advancement: Providing peer support for sessional navigation, grant applications, and tenure-track growth.
Knowledge Exchange: A place to swap technical expertise, from design software and visual communication to academic publishing.
The Way Forward
To maintain this as a high-value professional space, we encourage everyone to focus on concrete support. Whether you are looking for a peer reviewer for a research proposal, a guest lecturer, or advice on institutional navigation, this is the place for you to ask.
We are excited to see the effect we can achieve by turning our individual understanding into a unified strength.
Connecting scholars. Building legacy. Advancing careers.
